In order for teachers to conduct structured quality Physical Education lessons, it is of paramount importance that they be continually and systematically capacitated including being supported with basic equipment and relevant Physical Education lesson manuals.

Through our strategic partnership with Embury Institute for Higher Education (Pty) Ltd. Embury, PEISA is in a position to advance the agenda of teacher training and development through SAQA registered, CHE accredited qualifications and SACE Continuing Professional Teacher Development (CPTD) short courses.


Embury is registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) as a Private Higher Education Institution (Reg. No. 2008/HE07/004), under the Higher Education Act (1997), and accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE) to offer the following qualifications:

  • Higher Certificate in Pre-School Education (NQF 5);
  • Diploma in Pre-School Education and Foundation Phase Teacher Assistant (NQF 5);
  • Diploma in Grade R Teaching (NQF 6);
  • Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching (NQF 7);
  • Bachelor of Education in Intermediate Phase Teaching (NQF 7); and
  • Advanced Diploma in Physical Education and School Sports (NQF 7).

Embury offer both contact learning and distance learning qualifications at its campuses in Durban (Morningside), Pretoria (Montana) and Midrand (Waterfall Estate). In addition to the full-time teacher education programmes, Embury also specialises in Continuing Professional Teacher Development (CPTD) in the form of short courses (six months duration) in areas of need and/or specialisation such as Practicing Inclusive Education, Early Childhood Development, Physical Education in Foundation and Intermediate Phase, 21st Century Teaching, School Management, Mathematics, etc.
